* North Carolina MORAL Monday Movement Continues
Today, the North Carolina ‘Moral Monday’ Movement continues, GOOD.
Citizens in North Carolina (and beyond) are standing to RW Regressive extremely extreme policies such as VoterRestrictions, Women’s Health restrictions and clear violations, education issues, and so much more.
‘Moral Monday’s’ were founded, and are led by Rev. Dr. William Barber, Pres. NC NAACP. http://www.naacpnc.org/
The coalition in North Carolina is broad, wide and deepening daily: white, black, gay, straight, elder, young, male, female, military, non military, varying religions, and incomes… people of all ranks are COMING TOGETHER standing against RW Regressive blatant blazing ideologically obsessive legislation. GOOD.

“August 5 Mountain Moral Monday to Feature Rev. Dr. William Barber”
“ASHEVILLE – On Monday August 5 from 5-6:30 p.m., a coalition of WNC groups will host Mountain Moral Monday, a non-partisan event to highlight the abuse of power and cruel policies coming out of the N.C. statehouse. The event will take place at Pack Square Park and will feature Rev. Dr. William Barber, President of the NC NAACP, the grassroots leader responsible for shining a national spotlight on what the New York Times has called “The Decline of NC.”
“For the past 12 weeks, people from all walks of life and from all around the state have gathered in Raleigh to protest the frenzy of extremism that has gripped our state government,” said Valerie Hoh, a Mountain Moral Monday spokesperson and member of Save Our Water WNC. “This event will give people in our part of the state a chance to stand up for justice, democracy and moderation.”
Since April, 821 people have been arrested in the Raleigh “Moral Monday” demonstrations, including 68 people from WNC. Those 68 people will be honored at the event along with any others arrested for non-violent civil disobedience in the state capitol.
The Aug. 5 event will not involve civil disobedience. However, it will allow WNC residents to add their voices to the thousands of protesters who have joined Rev. Barber to bring national attention to the draconian laws being passed by the current state legislature. Ideological radicals have reversed years of progress in education, health care, voting rights, women’s rights, racial justice, environmental protection, and local decision-making.
In our part of the state, legislators associated with the pro-privatization, pro-corporatization group ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) took the shocking step of having the state seize Asheville’s award-winning public water system without compensation. Locals fear this is the first step in privatizing one of the purest watersheds in the country.
“I’ve never been in trouble a day in my life,” said Heather Rayburn, a Buncombe County native arrested for non-violent civil disobedience on July 15. “But policies are being made behind closed doors with no public process – policies that will do irreparable harm to our state. Policies are being passed that will mean the difference between life and death to real people. I had to stand up.”

* STANDING Up In PROTEST To “Starvation Wages”
Thank you Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for keeping attention on the most serious issues of income inequity, monetary injustice, and America’s economic insecurity for tens of millions.
“A Day’s Strike Seeks to Raise Fast-Food Pay From New York to several Midwestern cities, thousands of fast-food workers have been holding one-day strikes during peak mealtimes, quickly drawing national attention to their demands for much higher wages. What began in Manhattan eight months ago first spread to Chicago and Washington and this week has hit St. Louis, Kansas City, Detroit and Flint, Mich. On Wednesday alone, workers picketed McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Popeye’s and Long John Silver’s restaurants in those cities with an ambitious agenda: pay of $15 an hour, twice what many now earn, The New York Times reported.”

* CRISIS Called Out: School to Prison Pipeline GET ENGAGED & SAVE OUR CHILDREN From FOR PROFIT PRISONS!
The school to prison pipeline is tragically too real, and costing the futures of American children. Filling FOR PROFIT PRISONS with our children must end.
Thank you Advancement Project, and SafeQualitySchools.org for this:
“ENDING THE SCHOOLHOUSE TO JAILHOUSE TRACK”
“We are facing a crisis. Across the country, students are being suspended, expelled, shuffled off to disciplinary alternative schools, and even arrested for minor misbehavior or trivial actions like being late or violating a dress code. Instead of a trip to a counselor or a call home, students are being handcuffed and escorted from the schoolhouse to the jailhouse and courthouse. Metal detectors, armed guards, police, and barbed wire are common in our schools while libraries and counselors’ offices are left empty. Special thanks to Youth United for Change, Padres y Jovenes Unidos and Power U for their participation in this video.”
“The School to Prison Pipeline by Advancement Project”
Jul 3, 2013
“Harsh school policies and practices and an increased role of law enforcement in schools have combined to create a “schoolhouse-to-prison pipeline,” in which out-of-school suspensions, expulsions, and school-based arrests are increasingly used to deal with student misbehavior, especially for minor incidents, and huge numbers of children and youth are pushed out of school and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. This is more than an education crisis; it is a racial justice crisis because the students pushed out through harsh discipline are disproportionately students of color. Students with disabilities and LGBTQ students are also disproportionately impacted by these ineffective policies.”
