Good Wednesday 13 February, 2013. Thanks for listening to, participating in, & ENGAGING w/ IDECLAIR MEDIA, THE IDECLAIR SHOW…
Today, we review President Obama’s historic SOTU 2013 Address. Thank you President Obama, and Congressional Democrats for a State of the Union Americans will not soon forget.
*The minimum wage must be raised significantly, and changed to a living wage. President Obama made the case for millions of impoverished Americans progressing from the poverty line. Congress do what is right, raise the minimum wage to a living wage.
*In Florida, Ms. Desiline Victor waited many long hours (7 hours to be exact), to vote in the great election of 2012. Ms. Victor is 102 years of age, and was highlighted in the President’s SOTU. Thank you Ms. Victor for your courage, strength, determination, and sheer will. Congress do what is right, and ensure the electorate of America has a voting process that is accessible, efficient & fair for ALL.
*American families who lost loved ones to the horror of gun violence were at the State of the Union. President Obama spoke so eloquently, and powerfully about this horrific shame in America today. The madness of gun violence requires serious legislative changes, and yes, at the very least the families whose lives have been forever devastated by the brutal reality of gun proliferation in America… “they deserve a vote!” Congress, you are either aligned with the gun lobby or aligned with the American people. We the American people are watching.

“Senate leaders this week hope to settle on a plan to avoid nearly $1 trillion in federal spending cuts set to take effect March 1 under a so-called budget sequester. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday cosponsored legislation by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse to replace the across-the-board cuts. The proposal would raise $960 billion by closing tax loopholes that benefit the wealthiest Americans and big corporations. “At a time when revenue is near a 60-year low in terms of GDP and when corporations are doing phenomenally well while the middle class in America is collapsing, it is absolutely appropriate to ask corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes so we don’t balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the young, the sick and the poor,” Sanders said on Monday. Sanders last Thursday proposed his own bill to stop letting profitable corporations shelter income in the Cayman Islands and other offshore tax shelters (S.250). “Wall Street banks and large companies love America when they need corporate welfare. But when it comes to paying American taxes or American wages, they want nothing to do with this country. That has got to change,” Sanders wrote in a column last weekend for The Huffington Post.”
