We are clearly living in very serious times. The litany of issues, events, and concerns confronting Americans is nonstop, and longterm impacting. However, I am wondering if we as a national populous are Serious Citizens?
Serious Citizens brought about fundamental changes in our nations brutal, bloody, and hate filled history…
Serious Citizens (my ancestors) sacrificed flesh, blood, and family so I could sit and type on this computer in this very moment.
Serious Citizens, mindful of the historic moment, courageous in effort, moved by conscious, and driven with dignity… gave all their spirit filled, hard loving, tough & committed living, proud walking, heart, soul, flesh, & blood sacrificing they had – for me (and you) to be here today.
A Serious Citizen is conscious of every breath taken, every book read, every word written, every step walked, every muscle flexed, every word spoken, every morsel eaten, connected to the many known and unknown sacrifices made, and more.
A Serious Citizen is connected to the spirit disciplined sacrifice, strength, dignity, nobility, and sheer fierceness of those who have walked, worked, lived, stood, fought, sacrificed, bled, and died for us.
I’m asking blunt and upfront: Are you governed by a flimsy(ness), shallow(ness), surface, fake, flimflam, foolishness and/or frivolous(ness)? Has POP Culture Pickled, Pimped, & Prostituted YOU? Does POP Culture govern YOU?
The issues we face are life and death, quality of existence serious, and require Serious Citizenry.
We are living in very, very serious times. Our precious and brilliant children are dying (at our hands) daily, and in droves. The casual acceptance of this horrific fact of unprecedented record of death is evidence of our lack of seriousness. PERIOD.
Our homicide rates are highest. Our fatherlessness rates are highest. Our dropout rates are highest. Our unemployment rates are highest. Our obesity rates are highest. Our HIV/AIDS rates are highest. Our families are shattered, communities are devastated and suffering. We are seriously suffering.
Navigation ‘Dealing With The Difficult REAL RAW RIGHT NOW…’ requires Serious Citizenry.
Are we approaching this historic, game changing era we face with the seriousness required? I submit NO, we are not.
Where are Serious Citizens? Where are YOU?
We have accepted without question a (not in our best interest) casual mindset of governance. We have accepted without question, and applied a casual mindset, and governance to our choices. I submit this is a serious strategic error.
If we are to be taken seriously as a people (and a constituency), we must rise up and become SERIOUS CITIZENS.
