*Detroit’s bankruptcy, the largest bankruptcy in America, but not the first.

“Historic. Profound. Power. TRUTH. “Remarks by the President on Trayvon Martin” No Matter What… Know YOUR Value. No Matter What… Know YOU Matter. IDECLAIR IT!~”
Since those historic, and even epic Presidential remarks, there have been many with plenty to say. Some are not worthy of repeat, and I won’t waste time doing so.
Take a look at this. Thank you ThinkProgress.org, CNN, SOTU, and Senator John McCain (R-AZ).

Bankruptcy is a word no one wants to hear or be a part of. When talking the bankruptcy of an American city, the thought of it all is freakishly overwhelming, but definitely can and must be dealt resolved with investment in the people and great city of Detroit.
Tragic history. Detroit is the largest American city to have declared bankruptcy. This appears to be a massive scheme to privatize a major American city.

“The City of Flint releases its budget for 2014”
May 21, 2013
“The City of Flint’s Emergency Financial Manager, Ed Kurtz, has released the city’s budget for Fiscal Year 2014 (FY 2014).
The budget notes the many challenges facing Flint going forward. The largest challenge is a continued drop in property values, which means a potential loss of $3.5 million in revenue for the city.
Another problem is the loss of $2.5 million in major grant money. Additionally $1 million is committed to reducing the city’s accumulated $19.3 million deficit.
In terms of public safety, the budget says police and fire staffing should remain level for FY 2014. However, going forward the loss of grant money could mean the loss of fire fighters after FY 2014.
Additionally, the ability to address blight in the City of Flint will be “significantly less” for FY 2014.
The city’s parks will also be affected by the revenue losses. Going forward there will be “minimal maintenance” of the parks. The city will continue to mow the parks, though that is all that can be expected in FY 2014.
Kurtz’s budget also says that city streets will not be repaved for FY 2014. Instead the city will crack seal streets in order to prolong their life.
To repave the streets would cost $20 million. Crack sealing, by comparison, will cost an estimated $200,000.
Some good news for Flint residents in the budget? That overall the cost of city services will decrease by an average of 7% for FY 2014.
The budget also says there will be no increase in water or sewer rates.”

“Detroit Becomes Largest US City to Declare Bankruptcy”
Jul 19, 2013
“After years of population decline, a faltering auto industry and financial mismanagement by the city’s government, Detroit has filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in federal court. It’s the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, with the city listing more than 100,000 creditors. As VOA’s Kane Farabaugh reports that Detroit’s financial fate now rests in the hands of a bankruptcy judge as a local judge tries to block the move.”
